Huckleberries and A Cake
Huckleberries came early in the mountains of Idaho. I’m told by the mountain berry enthusiasts that they come in the late summer, August and into September. I was lucky enough to catch the huckleberry season just before our time in our isolated cabin staycation came to an end. And I celebrate the hard work we put into our summer (and into picking those berries) by making a cake.
Happy 4oth Birthday Beyoncé
Today is Beyoncé’s 40th birthday and I’m jumping on the bandwagon of giving a birthday shout out to the queen who has inspired me by revisiting a post that celebrated her 2018 September Vogue cover.
Twelve Years and The Obamas
The last time we were at the Art Institute of Chicago it was on my 30th birthday, months before lock down would take place. It was our last family outing. Now on this end of the pandemic, Jordan and I decided as part of our twelfth anniversary celebration we would go see the Obama portraits. There’s no better way to celebrate our marriage than by celebrating a couple who, in my opinion, is #couplegoals.
I’m Back From the Mountains
I spent my summer isolated in the mountains to rediscover my sense of self and to hit the reset button on my creativity. My life there was pretty dreamy as I had the time and space to do what I needed to recenter, but eventually my dreamy isolated mountain life had to come to an end. It was time to get my head out of the clouds and put my feet back on the ground.
A Love Letter to Skateboard Fashion
I was in high school when skinny jeans just came into the fashion scene and one by one, girls were throwing out their 90’s flares. The skater boys also took on the trend, trading in the uniform of baggy Dickies pants for skinny jeans. However, skinny jeans weren’t being made for guys yet so skater boys were wearing girl’s skinny jeans.
A Space to Be Alone
Let’s talk about alone time. This Summer we escaped to the mountains and in seeking out a place where we can recenter, it allowed me to see that there are various ways to be alone; alone time for yourself, alone time as a couple, and alone time as a family. All with the purpose to reconnect.
Summer 2021 Editor’s Note
We’ve been in our little mountain retreat since May and we came here with the intent to find peace after the chaos of last year. The desire to have a joyful Summer and to find the long sought-after peace and healing felt like a big to-do. I may have changed my scenery, but I hadn’t changed my mindset.
