Have you heard of Draw a Dot? It's a blog run by Marcus that features fashion illustrations to promote fashion illustrators from all over the globe. One of the cool things about Draw a Dot is that they host an Instagram Open Call where illustrators submit their work based on a subject, like a particular show or collection. The contest is closed now, but you can check out the submission on Instagram via #drawadot. I turned in my illustration five minutes before the deadline! I procrastinated (great start to a new year huh?) and I've never worked so fast on an illustration-ever! The winner will be announced on the twelfth . . . wish me luck!
The first Open Call for 2017 is to do a runway illustration from Spring/Summer 2017. My submission was based off of Christian Dior's SS 2017 collection. I absolutely love this line because of the different combination of textures. Like in the two pieces I illustrated, I love the pairing of the knit sweater with the sheer tulle skirt. Of course, Dior only makes this collection even more amazing by it's fabulous embroidered patterns. Check out those little insects! Oh and can we gush over the motifs: ladybugs, clovers, lobsters, and the moon! I love it and I love illustrating it!
