I hate to admit this, but I'm just now getting into Wes Anderson. Like, for reals into his films. I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel, but it took me a while after watching that film to even care about him and his movies. I think it was Moonrise Kingdom that tugged at my heartstrings and got me interested in this artist wiz of a director.
So to catch up on Wes Anderson, I got my husband some of his films for Christmas: Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and The Royal Tenenbaums. We had a big Wes Anderson marathon during the holiday break. And during that break, I watched The Royal Tenenbaums three times. Three. And each time I fell in love with it more and more.
Quick what your favorite scene!?!?!?
Mine: When Richie Tenenbaum tries to commit suicide. The blue and the red colors in that scene! Oh, and that song by Elliot Smith...my heart!!! I've never felt so beautifully depressed (is that even a thing?)! For sure all the feels!
Second favorite scene?!?!?
Ok, fine, I'll share another! When Richie checks himself out of the hospital after said suicide attempt. That bus ride...the walk across the street back to his house...the climbing of the fence to climb in through the window! Of course, all of that magically accompanied by Nick Drake's song, Fly. Just magical!
Ok, enough of that. I could go on forever!
Anyway, like many before me have done, I had to illustrate Margot (weird that my fav scenes are of Richie and I'm illustrating Margot...I'll have to illustrate him next). I just love her presence and I wanted to capture it in paint and ink.
