Sia

Late last year, I started doing fashion illustrations inspired from the music scene. I did a couple illustrations of Lorde from her Yellow Flicker Beat video seen here. Anyway, I want to get back into this thing and make it regular content for my blog.

So here's what I got going on, my girl Sia! I'm going to do the whole "I discovered her back in the day" brag, cause well I did. I was reading Rolling Stone in 2008 and her album cover caught my eye. People always say to never judge a book by it's cover, but I do. Yes, I do and I've never been wrong. I got that artsy sense. I just know things and I have never been led astray. At least with movies and music. So maybe that phrase only really works with literature. Anyway, I read the blurb on her album and was curious. The genre of her music was labeled as world music at the time. World music....what?!?!? So I went to Target and picked me up a copy. I had a friend with me at the time and he asked about her music and I said, "I don't know anything about her." He thought I was crazy for just buying music I had never heard of. Crazy, yes, cause spending $20 on a whole album you've never even sampled is crazy! But my artistic gut was right! I fell in love and I couldn't believe nobody else wasn't jamming to her. Fast forward to like five-ish years and Sia is a dynamite!

When I watched this performance on SNL, I was mesmerized. She's a fantastic artist and performer! I laid eyes on her blue frock and that thing where my mind transform a subject into an illustration happened, and I knew I had to put her on paper. So here she is.
